Life is short and experiences can make us feel vulnerable. Having a strong inner self makes dealing with things easier.
Inner strength is developed through experiences and challenges.
As people go through more, they become more mature. Many find it easier to hold onto things, but it takes courage and determination to let go. Psychology says that a person truly becomes strong when they let go of these two things.
Letting Go of Pride
Many people value pride, but it can lead to losing oneself. Young people especially care about pride. For example, a friend from a less privileged background worked hard to get into college. His family sacrificed a lot for his education.
One day, he wore a new watch to show off to his classmates. The watch cost thousands of dollars, which was unrealistic for him. It was later discovered that he stole money from his roommate.
Despite his efforts and decent academic performance, his vanity led him astray.
Being overly concerned about others’ opinions, or pride, can make one weak. Dignity is not the same as pride. A person with inner strength doesn’t care about losing face and remains confident. In real life, those with thicker skin are happier. Why worry about others’ opinions? Their views can only suggest, not dictate. You are your own master.
Sometimes, caring too much about pride leads to missed opportunities. Letting go of pride can bring more wealth.
Letting Go of Laziness
Everyone has laziness, but some push themselves to work hard and succeed. The saying “the harder you work, the luckier you get” is true. Many claim to be lazy or procrastinators, but it’s not good. Laziness is common in daily life, like struggling to get out of bed in the morning.
In college, there are hardworking students and lazy ones. I knew a diligent student who had a detailed schedule and was always busy studying, attending classes, and working part-time.
I asked her if she ever felt tired. She said, “Sometimes, but consistency leads to results.”
She was disciplined and had a plan, which led her to her ideal job after graduation.
Let go of impatience and laziness. Focus on what matters and work hard. Sometimes, after putting in effort, you’ll realize how excellent you are.
Instead of gossiping, meditate on your goals and work diligently. Overcoming challenges will make you wiser and stronger.
Be a person of inner strength and watch yourself grow stronger.
